Wie auch bei vielen anderen Themen stellt sicher hier auch die Frage: Eigenentwicklung oder Standardl\u00f6sung? Die richtige Wahl kann sich dabei sowohl auf die Entwicklung des Produktes auswirken als aus finanzieller und operativer Sicht erhebliche Auswirkungen haben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In diesem Artikel werden zuerst knapp Aspekte der Entwicklung und des operativen Betriebes verglichen und im Anschluss eine Kostenanalyse \u00fcber beide Varianten erstellt. Dabei wird der Fokus sowohl auf die einmaligen Fixkosten als auch auf die variablen Kosten skalieren mit Betriebsjahren und Ger\u00e4ten gelegt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unterschiede aus technischer Sicht<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Aus technischer Sicht einer der wichtigsten Punkte ist der Funktionsumfang der OTA-L\u00f6sung (OTA = \u201eOver-the-Air\u201c). F\u00fcr die Weiterentwicklung der Software ist vor allem relevant, ob die \u00c4nderungen auf bereits ausgelieferte Zielger\u00e4te nachgeliefert werden k\u00f6nnen. F\u00fcr reine Software-Anpassungen ist dies meist kein Problem. Da bei IoT-Ger\u00e4ten allerdings in den meisten F\u00e4llen ein komplettes Ger\u00e4t ausgeliefert wird muss auch Konfiguration au\u00dferhalb der Anwendung verwaltet werden. Im einfachsten Fall muss z.B. ein kompromittierter SSH-Schl\u00fcssel ausgetauscht werden, in (seltenen) komplexeren F\u00e4llen m\u00fcssen neue Hardware-Schnittstellen aktiviert werden, oder andere \u00c4nderungen an der Betriebssystem-Konfiguration vorgenommen werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im operativen Betrieb geht es dann vor allem um die Einsicht in den Zustand eines Ger\u00e4tes und die effiziente Verwaltung von einer Vielzahl von Ger\u00e4ten. Zum Beispiel m\u00fcssen folgende Szenarien abgedeckt sein:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Eine Softwareversion enth\u00e4lt eine kritische Sicherheitsl\u00fccke. Es muss m\u00f6glichst schnell festgestellt werden, welche Ger\u00e4te diese Version installiert haben. Diese Ger\u00e4te m\u00fcssen au\u00dferdem sofort auf eine neue Version aktualisiert werden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Bei einer neu ver\u00f6ffentlichten Version ist ein Fehler passiert. Diese muss sofort von allen Ger\u00e4ten heruntergenommen werden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Ein Kunde hat ein Problem mit dem Betrieb seines Ger\u00e4tes. Die Fehlersituation ist noch nicht bekannt und muss unbedingt gel\u00f6st werden. In dieser Situation ist es wichtig, genau zu wissen, welche Software-Version auf dem betroffenen Ger\u00e4t im Einsatz ist, und wann welche \u00c4nderungen vorgenommen wurden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sowohl aus Sicht der Entwicklung als auch des operativen Betriebs gibt es einige wichtige Anforderungen, die auf jeden Fall unterst\u00fctz werden m\u00fcssen. Bei eigens entwickelten OTA-L\u00f6sungen ist es wichtig, diese Problemstellungen von Anfang an einzubeziehen und trotz des Mehraufwandes L\u00f6sungen zu suchen. Bei Standardl\u00f6sungen sind diese Problemstellungen in den meisten F\u00e4llen bereits \u00fcber die OTA-Software gel\u00f6st und ben\u00f6tigen daher keine weiteren \u00dcberlegungen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wartung der OTA-L\u00f6sung<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Auch die OTA-L\u00f6sung selbst muss gewartet werden. Bei einer Eigenentwicklung muss diese Wartung auch eigens gel\u00f6st werden. Dazu z\u00e4hlen in erster Linie folgende Themen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wie auch die IoT-Ger\u00e4te selbst kann auch die OTA-Software Fehler enthalten. Diese Fehler m\u00fcssen identifiziert, behoben und ausgerollt werden. In diesem Fall wird gegebenenfalls auch ein Update von einem Teil der OTA-L\u00f6sung auf den IoT-Ger\u00e4ten notwendig. Dies kann je nach System wieder eine Herausforderung sein und erh\u00f6ht die Komplexit\u00e4t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Des weiteren ben\u00f6tigt die OTA-Software \u00fcblicherweise auch einen Server. Dies bedeutet auch wieder, dass eine Infrastruktur aufgebaut und gewartet werden muss. Optimalerweise m\u00fcssen nat\u00fcrlich auch laufende Datensicherungen erstellt werden, da ein Verlust der Update-Daten meist eine sehr kostspielige Angelegenheit ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bei Standardl\u00f6sungen sind auch diese Probleme in den meisten F\u00e4llen bereits gel\u00f6st. Vor allem die Wartung der OTA-Software (inklusive OTA-Clients) obliegt komplett dem Anbieter der Standardl\u00f6sung und entf\u00e4llt damit den Pflichten des IoT-Herstellers. Die Infrastruktur wird bei Standardl\u00f6sungen abh\u00e4ngig vom System entweder vom Anbieter oder vom IoT-Hersteller \u00fcbernommen. Hierbei unterscheidet man zwischen sogenannten \u201eOTA-as-a-Service\u201c und \u201eOn-Premises\u201c-L\u00f6sungen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>W\u00e4hrend bei der OTA-as-a-Service-Variante der Anbieter der OTA-Software f\u00fcr die Infrastruktur inklusive Datensicherungen verantwortlich ist, obliegen diese Themen bei On-Premises-Angeboten dem IoT-Hersteller. Welche Varianten angeboten werden muss hierbei unbedingt vorab gekl\u00e4rt werden, um einen reibungslosen Start zu gew\u00e4hrleisten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-18de8756 alignfull uagb-is-root-container\"><div class=\"uagb-container-inner-blocks-wrap\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-90cd7fe7\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-485c720c\"><h4 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">Entstehende Kosten<\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Auch die entstehenden Kosten der beiden Varianten variieren stark. Die Kosten f\u00fcr eine Eigenentwicklung bestehen aus zwei Teilen: im ersten Schritt sind hohe initiale Ausgaben notwendig, um die Software zu implementieren. Im weiteren Schritt entstehen laufend weitere Aufw\u00e4nde f\u00fcr die Wartung der Software. Die exakten Kosten f\u00fcr eine Eigenentwicklung sind (wie auch f\u00fcr jede andere Software) nur schwer im Detail planbar. Es k\u00f6nnen jederzeit unerwartete Mehrkosten entstehen, da ungeplante Verz\u00f6gerungen auftreten. In den meisten F\u00e4llen fallen diese Mehrkosten direkt auf den IoT-Hersteller zur\u00fcck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Gegensatz dazu gibt es bei Standardl\u00f6sungen detailliert planbare Kosten. Abh\u00e4ngig vom Anbieter gibt es auch in diesem Fall initiale und laufende Kosten. Beide k\u00f6nnen jedoch stark variieren. So gibt es auf der einen Seite L\u00f6sungen, wo keine initialen Kosten anfallen und die initialen Aufw\u00e4nde \u00fcber die laufenden Kosten mit gedeckt werden. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es auch welche, wo es keinen Servicevertrag gibt und damit auch keine laufenden Kosten anfallen. Diese beinhalten sowohl den Betrieb der Software als auch die Bereitstellung von Sicherheitsbehebungen und neuen Softwareversionen. Die Geb\u00fchren sind abh\u00e4ngig von der Anzahl der verwendeten Ger\u00e4te.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Als Kostensch\u00e4tzung f\u00fcr die Eigenentwicklung werden 20 Tage initialer Aufwand und 10 Tage j\u00e4hrlicher Aufwand mit einem branchen\u00fcblichen Stundensatz von 90\u20ac\/Entwicklungsstunde gerechnet (bei internen Entwicklerteams kann dieser Stundensatz unter Umst\u00e4nden geringer ausfallen). Ein Break-Even-Point wird \u00fcberhaupt erst erreicht, wenn die laufenden Kosten der Standardl\u00f6sung sich den Wartungskosten der Eigenentwicklung ann\u00e4hern. Dies ist nach dem Modell erst bei ca. 1200 Ger\u00e4ten der Fall. Ab 3600 Ger\u00e4ten ist der Break-even-Point bereits nach dem ersten Jahr erreicht und die Standardl\u00f6sung nicht ratsam. Praktisch ist diese Rechnung etwas komplexer, da ARCANIX Configuration Management ab mehr als 100 Ger\u00e4ten ma\u00dfgeschneiderte Pricing-Modelle anbietet. Diese sind von den konkreten Kundenanforderung abh\u00e4ngig. Dadurch wird der Break-even-Point nochmals deutlich nach oben verschoben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Die richtige Wahl f\u00fcr nachhaltige Betriebskostenoptimierung<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Der Vergleich zwischen Eigenentwicklung und Standardl\u00f6sung zeigt klare Betriebs- und Kostenunterschiede. Angesichts der Wirtschaftlichkeit sind Standardl\u00f6sungen f\u00fcr die meisten Unternehmen vorteilhafter, sofern keine hochspezialisierten Anforderungen bestehen.
